A superb quality Victorian figured mahogany serpentine fronted correspondence box with solid silver decorative fittings, hallmarked London 1894. The exterior veneered with choice figured mahogany v...eneers, boxwood and ebony chequered stringing to the edges. Solid silver axe drop handle with floral back plate to the lid and superb fretted two piece lock escutcheon and clasp to the serpentine front, complimenting silver hinges to the rear, all with matching hallmarks. The lid opening to reveal an original pale green satin velvet lined interior with trimmed edges to the divisions, matching lining to the interior of the lid. Presented in excellent original condition with a rich colour and original patina; please note this item is not altered from a knife box. Measures 9.5" wide x 10" deep x 14" high. Stock number 39156.
