A fine quality slim proportioned mid Victorian rosewood stick barometer by Chadburn Brothers of Sheffield in superb fully overhauled and working condition c.1870. The figured rosewood case with cushion moulded pediment to the top, angled bone scales below with twin vernier markers and mercury action barometer tube set to the centre. Beveled edge glass sat over the top with moulded edge frame sat around the outer edge. Slim trunk with thermometer box set to the centre, which includes a bone scale and original mercury action thermometer. Square base section with cushion design ...cistern cover to the centre. Bears the makers name Chadburn Brothers, Sheffield (they also had a location in Liverpool), who were highly regarded markers to Prince Albert, exhibited at the Great Exhibition and are noted as trading between 1837 & 1875. This example presented in superb condition with a rich colour and original patina, fully overhauled and working. Measures 38" long x 5" wide at the pediment x 2.25" wide at the trunk x 1.5" deep.
