A superb mid Victorian golden figured oak case Admiral Fitzroy's Storm stick barometer by highly regarded maker Negretti & Zambra c.1870. The substantially constructed solid figured golden oak case with arched top, slim trunk with canted corners and a complementing flared base with a chamfered edge stepped cistern cover to the base. Porcelain panel to the top with 'Admiral Fitzroy's Storm Barometer' wording located above angled porcelain scales with broad mercury action barometer tube set to the centre and a remote action vernier marker; all sat behind... a quarter bevelled edge glass view window. Matching porcelain scale to the slim trunk with mercury action thermometer tube and unusually large reservoir bubble to the base; sat in an oak box with quarter plate bevelled edge glass to match the barometer window. Bears the makers name Negretti & Zambra, who are highly regarded makers of scientific instruments. Presented in superb original condition, fully serviced and working. Measures 40" long x 5" wide at the widest point x 3" wide at the trunk x 3" maximum depth. Stock number 42033.
