A rare Victorian Staffordshire pottery Fredrick Bridges Phrenology head pen and ink well in superb unrestored condition c.1850. Decorative base with raised decoration around the pen holders a...nd ink well, highlighted in under glazed blue; F Bridges phrenology impression to the front of the base. The phrenology head sat above with grey wording and divisions detailing the area of the brain and brain function. Fredrick Bridges was a renowned English phrenologist and was author of the book 'Phrenology Made Practical' - the book was printed in several editions and was hugely popular. This rare phrenology head presented in superb undamaged condition with no restoration, small manufacturers glaze fault to the front corner. Measures 5.5" high x 2.75" wide x 3.25" deep.
