A very original Georgian period brass lantern clock by Thomas Watts of Lavenham(Suffolk) C.1740. Turned pillars with decorative finials to the top and bottom. Silvered chapter ring with single pointer... and engraved centre bearing the makers name, original anchor escapement movement with Royal pendulum and original lead weight to the rope drive. Fretwork pediment to the top with cast iron bell above with original finial to the top. Original hook & spike mountings for wall mounting. Strikes on a bell to the hour on a count wheel. Of interest to the collector is practice engraving behind the dial by the maker; see Brian Loomes sold catalogue online (this clock sold by him to the previous owner). Full working order, superb sympathetic polish. Measures 6.5" wide x 7.75" deep x 14" high, 48" including pendulum. Stock number 34534.
