A George III oak cased longcase clock with a brass and silvered moon phases dial by Thomas Lister of Halifax c.1780. The oak case with swan neck pediment to the top and turned pillars either side of the hood window; matching quarter columns to the trunk. Slender shaped top door with moulded edge and matching panel to the base. The trunk sat on a moulded plinth with ogee bracket feet below. The engraved brass and silvered dial with moon phases lunar calendar to the centre of the dial and calendar to the lower half. Decorative engraved centre and chapter ring with Roman numerals, c...ast brass spandrels to the corners and original blued steel hands. The 30 hour movement with anchor escapement and bell striking on the hour, fully serviced and working. Thomas Lister junior was the son of Thomas Lister, born at Ludenen Foot in 1814 and is recorded as making clocks in Bull Green, Halifax. This example in superb original condition with a rich patina, the movement fully overhauled and working. Measures 98" high x 21" maximum width at the hood x 9.5" maximum depth. Stock number 39881.
