A superb small proportioned oak George II period 8 day longcase clock by Thomas Stringer of Market Drayton c.1740. The small slim proportioned case with moulded cornice to the top and slim pillars ...to either side of the glazed view window. Long door to the trunk with shaped top. Plinth foot with small feet to the base. The brass dial with engraved silvered chapter ring, subsidiary seconds dial and ringed winding holes; date aperture to the bottom half of the dial and cast spandrels to the corners. The 8 day movement with anchor escapement and bell striking on the hour, fully serviced and working. Thomas stringer is recorded as working in Market Drayton, Shropshire between 1728 and 1780. Presented in excellent condition with a rich colour and original patina, fully serviced and working. Measures 81.5" high x 21" wide at the cornice x 9" deep x 12" trunk width. Stock number 39101.
