A small proportioned Regency period single fusee bracket clock in brass inlaid ebonised case, fully overhauled and working c.1825. Chamfered top sat over a small moulded cornice with carved ridged ...boarder below. Canted corners and apron foot to the base, ebonised finish with brass inlays and stringing throughout. Brass fretted sound frets to the sides with flower basket handles above and small matching brass bun feet to the base. Convex glass to the cast brass bezel, forming the front door, and glazed door to the rear both with working locks and keys. Convex painted dial in superb condition with Roman numerals and original blued steel hands, bears the makers name 'Davey, Lewes'. The eight day single fusee movement with anchor escapement and heavy quality shaped plates, fully overhauled and working. Ebenezer Davey clockmaker born 1781 in Lewes and was apprentice to William Cozens of Clerkenwell. Ebenezer was followed into business by his sons George and Thomas and is recorded as a maker of quality clocks (Source, British Museum). Superb quality and small proportioned ideal for a mantel and presented in immaculate condition; fully serviced and working. Measures 8.5" wide x 6" deep x 12.5" high. Stock number CS155.
