A charming small proportioned George II period oak cased cottage longcase clock, made for a wedding, fully serviced and working c.1750. The small proportioned figured oak case with original caddy t...o the top, moulded cornice below, pilasters attached to either side of the hood door and quarter columns to the rear. The slim trunk with long door, moulded waist below and shaped apron foot forming the base. The brass dial with engraved centre and dummy winding holes, cartouche to the top with the initials of the original owners C T (often these clocks were made to celebrate the marriage of a couple and would be engraved with the couples initials). Four seasons spandrels to the corners of the dial and original fretted steel hands. The thirty hour movement striking on a bell on the hour; original to the dial and case. Presented in superb original condition with the original glass to the hood, superb colour and original patina, fully serviced and working. Measure 18.5" wide at the hood with an 11" trunk width x 10" deep at the hood x 78" high. Stock number 40510.
