A Small George III period longcase clock made by highly regarded maker, Jonas Barber of Winster. Brass and silvered dial with semi circular date aperture and gilt spandrels to the corners. Superb oak ...and mahogany cross banded case with turned columns repeated to the moulded cornice hood. Numbered 582 to the movement, c.1762. 30 hour movement striking on a bell to the hour. Full working order. Stands 76"high. *Jonas Barber clocks are very sought after. Each one being numbered to the movement with characteristic curl to the number 5 on the dial. Two generations working from 1710-1802. Each of London quality, the original Jonas Barber moving up to Winster from London. A list of known clocks is in B.W.Cave-Browne-Cave's book. Very few clock makers had a numbering system.
