An outstanding quality Victorian cast silver capstan's ink well with original removable cut crystal well, hallmarked London 1885. Broad flared base with ribbed decoration and beaded rim to the... top edge. The hinged cast lid with stepped lined edge forming a rim, the lid opening to reveal a dished polished interior to hold spills; hole to the centre to dip the pen into the ink. The underside with removeable silver strap to secure the original star cut base glass liner. Bears the makers mark for London silversmith and specialist in this type of item George Fox along with clear hallmarks to all sections; weighs 262g excluding the crystal well. Presented in immaculate condition with a deep shine. Measures 4.25" wide at the base x 2" high. Stock number 40102.
