An Outstanding figured mahogany George III period antique 8 day longcase clock with brass and silvered dial by Benjamin Peers of Chester C.1790 The top quality case cross banded and strung with fruit ...wood throughout. Swan neck pediment to the hood with painted glass panels below. Reeded brass mounted columns to the sides, with matching quarter columns with gilt brass Corinthian capitals to the trunk. Canted corner base section with moulded foot and ogee bracket feet. The engraved brass and silvered arched dial movement with painted moon phases to the arch, engraved centre and chapter ring. Rare central concentric date hand and strike or silent facility and seconds dial. Anchor escapement to the bell striking movement. This clock is totally original and has had the movement fully restored, it includes the original removeable finials to the hood. Period weights and pendulum, working lock with period key. * Benjamin Peers of Chester was recorded to be working in Eastgate Street in 1784 and was in the same year made a freeman of the city.
