An Impressive Mid 19th Century Colonial Portrait Oil on Canvas of a gentleman merchant.c.1820. Sat with a letter inscribed 'To Mr Pilling......' Ring to his ear, with his merchant house in the background. In the original simulated rosewood and gilt mount frame. Very well painted. Measures 41" x 46"high x 3.5"deep. Canvas measures 31" x 36"high. *Portrait's of this size were to show their wealth, with his large house in the background.
