A superb George III period solid walnut 8 day brass and silvered dial with moon phases longcase clock by John Dickinson of Cartmel, Cumbria C.1765. The fine quality solid walnut case probably supplied by Gillows, Lancaster. Swan neck pediment to the hood with decorative gilt pateras, the arched top hood door with turned columns in brass mounts to the sides. The long slim trunk with canted corners and figured timber shaped top door. Matching canted corner base with moulded plinth and original ogee bracket feet. Fine engraved brass and silvered dial with painted moon phases to the arch beari...ng the makers name John Dickinson, Cartmel. The dial centre with engraving forming a subsidiary seconds dial and framing the winding holes and date aperture, cast brass spandrels to the corners. The 8 day movement with anchor escapement and rack striking to the hour on a bell. John Dickinson born at Warton and served as apprentice to Jacob Houseman, known to be working at Cartmel between 1750 and 1779 ( please enquire for further history on this maker ). Presented in fully restored condition with good colour and polish, fully restored movement in full working order, 12 months guarantee. Measures 90" high x 20" maximum width x 10" maximum depth.
