A George III period oak cottage longcase clock with brass and silvered moon phases dial by Gate of Carlisle, fully serviced and working c.1780. Slim proportioned figured golden oak casework with moulded cornice and dental freeze to the flat top, arched hood door below flanked by slender walnut columns set in brass mounts. Canted corners to the slender trunk with the long door shaped at the top. Original plinth foot with shaped lower edge. Engraved brass and silvered dial with rolling moon phases to the arch, the engraved dial centre with subsidiary calendar dial to the lower half and t...he makers name T Gate, Carlisle (Thomas Gate is recorded working between Rickergate, Carlisle between 1757 and 1800).
