A superb original George III period oak cased longcase clock with brass dial and 30 hour movement by Richard Bullock of Ellesmere, Shropshire c.1765. The superior quality solid oak case with moulded ...cornice to the hood and turned pilasters set either side of the glazed view window. The long slim trunk with quarter columns set either side to match the hood moulded edge door with shaped top, decorative brass hinges and matching lock escutcheon. The original base with moulded shaped plinth forming the foot. The brass dial with stylised flower engravings to the centre and date aperture, chapter ring with roman numerals and bearing the makers name Richard Bullock of Ellesmere, numbered 528. Cast brass four season spandrels to the corners. 30 hour movement with anchor escapement and count wheel striking; strikes on a bell on the hour. The Bullock's are a noted family of Shropshire clock makers, known for their unusual features within the clock movements. Richard Bullock followed his father (Edmund) as a clockmaker and like his father numbered his clocks. The number on this clock indicates and approximate date of manufacture c.1765.
