A fine quality figured oak 8 day brass and silvered dial longcase clock with moon phases by William Barlow of Ashton, Manchester c.1770. The quality figured oak case with moulded cornice to the top..., the glazed door flanked by turned mahogany brass mounted pillars. Slim trunk with long door crossbanded with mahogany, quarter columns to each side. The base with canted corners and panel shaped and crossbanded to match the door. Moulded plinth to the base with small ogee bracket feet below, superb colour and original patina throughout. The brass and silvered dial with cast gilded spandrels to the corners and silvered chapter ring, engraved dial centre with date aperture and 'axe' moon phases. The painted moon phase dial with rare blue moon in full working order and original blued steel hands. 8 day movement with anchor escapement and count wheel striking on a bell on the hour. Bears the makers name William Barlow, Ashton, one of the highly regarded Barlow family of clock makers prominent in the mid to late 1700's in the Manchester area. Presented in superb condition, fully serviced, working and guaranteed. Measures 79" high x 23" wide at the cornice x 12" deep at the cornice x 18" wide at the trunk. Stock number 39864.
