An impressive George III period ebony and ormolu trimmed cased double fusee bracket clock by John Starey, Royal Exchange, London c.1790. The ebony case with bell top and carry handle set above. The... case decorated with ormolu trim to the top and canted corners on the dial door. Matching ormolu trim to the window edge, ormolu feet and sound frets to the sides and finials to the top. The 8" dial with painted centre plus strike, complementing brass hands and gilded spandrels to the corners. The double fusee movement with anchor escapement and bell striking on the hour, plus a silent dial set on a brass backplate. Bears the makers name for London clock maker John Starey, recorded as making clocks in Royal Exchange from 1770 until his death in 1880 - he became a Freeman of the clock makers company in 1785.
