A George II period antique oak brass dial cottage longcase clock by Yorkshire maker John Lawson of Keighley C1750. Slim small proportioned case with walnut cross banding throughout, wide cornice to the hood with pillars set to the outer corners, typical of this maker. Long door with shaped top and crossbanded edge flanked by reeded quarter columns. Matching crossbanded base with decorative inlay and original shaped plinth foot. Fine quality brass dial with matted and engraved centre. Painted axe type moon phases and secondary date aperture below. Engraved silvered chapter ring bearing the make...rs name J Lawson Kighley ( the old spelling) Cast spandrels to the corners. Bell chiming count wheel striking 30 hour movement with anchor escapement. Original lead weight and brass bob pendulum. Fully overhauled movement. John Lawson working in Keighley 1742- 52 one of a family of well regarded makers of this period. Very original with superb colour and original patina. Measures 79" high x 22.5" wide at the hood x 9.5" maximum depth. Stock number 35605.
