A Victorian carved oak rope twist design cased ships barometer by highly regarded Hull maker Ben Franks, fully serviced and working c.1885. The solid English oak case carved in a rope twist design,... porcelain dial with decorative lettering bearing the makers name sat over the aneroid movement. Cast polished brass bezel with inset quarter plate glass, reading marker set to the centre. Ben Franks were highly regarded makers and retailers of barometers, nautical and scientific instruments in the Victorian period and noted as working between 1880 - 1900 at premises in Hull, Manchester and Hanley. Presented in excellent condition, fully serviced and working. Measures 9.5" diameter x 2.5" deep. Stock number 39543.
