A fine quality William IV period double fusee bracket clock with engraved silvered dial and rare day and date calendars C.1835. Quality polished rosewood case with stepped top, arched top door to the front with decorative carved panels either side of the arch and moulded edges. Moulded edge base with matching carved relief. Brass grilles to the sides and matching rosette back plate ring carrying handles. Engraved silvered dial with Roman numerals and three subsidiary dials to the arch. The top dial for silencing the strike mechanism and the other two forming an unusual and rare dual day of the... week and day of the month calendar. Bears the makers name, John Jones, 338 Strand, London along with serial number 16201. Original double fusse movement with anchor escapement and bell striking on the hour and half hour. Original chain drive to the fusse barrels, fully operational calendar sequence. John Jones was a highly regarded clock maker (1815-1909) and local politician. He was one of the founding members of the British Horological Institute along with many other institutions. In full working order, the case in superb original condition.
