A fine quality Victorian heavy quality solid silver Capstan inkwell with original star cut crystal liner and well, hallmarked London 1895. The square lidded well with clipped corners and flared base for stability. Hinged lid to the top with reeded rim below and matching reeded decoration to the foot. The hinged lid opening to reveal an inset silver platform for retaining spills with recess to hold the original crystal well. The underside with silver panel to hold the star cut crystal inner liner; removable by four blued steel screws. Bears the makers mark for London silversmiths John G...rinsell & Sons along with clear hallmarks to all sections including the base plate. The finest quality presented in immaculate condition with a deep shine. Measures 3.5" wide x 3.5" deep x 2.5" high. Stock number 40733.
