A fine quality mid Victorian book matched burr walnut Harlequin Davenport desk with pop up stationary rack and pull out secretaire in mint condition c.1875. Knee hole to the front with moulded edge panel flanked by decorative turned pilasters, dummy drawers to the left and full depth drawers to the right hand side and the back with inset panel to match the knee hole. Choice cut burr walnut veneers book matched to the centre of the desk, matching veneers to each side and small turned feet to the base with concealed castors. The lid lifting to reveal a pull out leather surfaced secretaire hinged to the front and lifting to form a slope; storage compartment below with pen and ink compartment set to the side. Two drawers to the rear of the interior, the left one with concealed release catch for the stationary rack. The weight driven rack popping up to reveal a fretwork gallery to the front, the top folding over to form a surface; fully fitted stationary rack to the interior. Presented in immaculate crisp condition with a rich colour and polish throughout, working lock and key for the desk surface. Measures 22.5" wide x 22.5" deep x 35" high to top of rear, or 40" with rack up x 27.5" writing surface. Stock number 40122.
