A fine quality Regency flame mahogany bow fronted stick barometer with silvered scales by Gardner of Glasgow c.1820. Swan neck pediment to the top with bowed glass view window below. Silvered scale... set behind with mercury action stick barometer set to the centre and remote vernier marker. The flame mahogany veneered trunk with ebony strung edge and inset mercury action thermometer to the centre with matching silvered scale and bowed glass. Urn shaped cistern cover to the base with ebonised finish and canted corners set either side. Bears the makers name to the scale, M Gardner, Glasgow, Opticians (indicating a date of manufacture c.1820-22) Fully serviced and working, the case in superb original condition with a rich patina. Measures 40" long x 2.5" wide at the trunk x 4" wide at the pediment x 2" deep. Stock number 39016.
