A fine quality George III period figured mahogany 8 day painted dial longcase clock by Hodgon of Preston c.1780. The figured mahogany case with swan neck pediment to the top and inlaid band sat ove...r the hood door, reeded pilasters set either side of the hood. Quarter columns to the trunk with shaped top door and inlaid band to match the hood. Canted corners to the base with moulded plinth below and small ogee bracket feet forming the foot. The 8 day bell striking movement with anchor escapement sat behind a painted dial. A short video of the clock striking can be viewed on our YouTube channel - click here. The dial the strawberry blossom decoration to the corners and birds of paradise to the centre, typical of Lancashire clocks of this period. Roman numerals and blued steel hands, secondary seconds and calendar dial. Fully overhauled and working movement, the case with a rich colour and original patina; presented in excellent original condition. Measures 7' 2" tall x 22" wide at the hood top x 9" deep x 16" trunk width. Stock number 39400.
