A fine George III period mahogany stick barometer with engraved silvered scale and thermometer C.1810. Book matched 'feathered' veneers and moulded edge to the case with architectural pediment to the ...top and original brass finial. Turned cistern to the base. Visible tube to the mercury action movement with engraved silvered scale to the top and vernier marker. Red alcohol thermometer set to the side of the scale, bears the makers name C. Aiano. Charles Chritmas Aiano was of Italian origin and started his business manufacturing barometers in Canterbury, the company still trades today in a different form. Hinged glazed door with hook clasp covers the scale. Fully overhauled movement. Measures 39" long x 5" wide x 1.5" deep. Stock number 34278.
