A fine quality George III period mahogany stick barometer by George Adams, Fleet Street, London c.1790. Architectural pediment to the top of the feather banded veneered case with moulded outer edge; d...omed turned cistern cover to the base. Engraved silvered scale set to the top with veneer marker, bears the makers name George Adams maker to his Majesty. Visible mercury tube set to the centre of the case held in by polished brass securing straps. George Adams followed his father into the trade and was a highly regarded maker, he is recorded as maker to George III and optician to the Prince of Wales. He was apprentice to his father from 1765 and took over the business in 1773 and worked until 1795. A fine quality instrument presented in immaculate condition, the movement fully serviced. Measures 41" long x 5" wide x at the top x 1" deep. Stock number 38409.
