A very collectable early Jonas Barber of Winster longcase clock with rare 8 day movement C.1730. Superb oak case with broad cornice to the hood with sound fret below to the front. Vase design pillars ...sat either side of the view window, long trunk with early design recessed door, reeded decoration framing the door. square base with moulded apron bracket foot to the base. The brass and silvered dial with dated aperture, decorative engraved surround. Ringed winding holes, the chapter ring engraved Jonas Barber Fecit. The 8 day movement with latch release, a typical Barber feature and shaped tip to the hammer stake along with many other flourishes. Count wheel striking and anchor escapement. Jonas Barber one of the most highly regarded clock makers in Westmorland and one of the very few makers who numbered his work, this early pre numbered example (pre 1748) He has been extensively researched and written about, the most complete work by B.W. Cave Browne Cave. Presented in fully restored working order, the case with superb colour and polish. Measures 79" high x 22" wide at the cornice x 12" deep at the cornice.
