An early burr yew cased stick barometer with engraved silvered scale by Simon Cade, Charing Cross, London in superb fully restored condition c.1730. Swept arched cornice forming a pediment to the t...op with turned ebonised finials sat above and moulded plinth sat below the scale. The trunk with burr yew veneers and deep turned cistern cover to the base. The two piece silvered scale with weather predictions to the left and pressure to the right side plus vernier marker. Bears the makers name Simon Cade, Charing Cross, recorded working from 1688 to 1735; he was apprentice to Henry Wynne in 1680 who was one of the earliest barometer makers. A stylish early instrument presented in immaculate fully restored and working condition. Measures 40" long x 6.5" wide at the pediment x 2" maximum depth x 3" wide trunk. Stock number 41932.
