A fine small proportioned George II period oak 8 day brass and silvered dial longcase clock by Obadiah Brandreth of Middlewich, Cheshire c.1745. The top quality solid figured oak case with chequered f...ruitwood and ebony stringing throughout. Original caddy to the hood with supporting pillars set each side of the dial door. Long trunk with slim door flanked by reeded quarter columns. Panel to the base with matching stringing, moulded plinth to the base sat on ogee bracket feet. The original 8 day movement with earlier type count wheel striking to the hour, fine quality brass and engraved silvered dial with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture. Fully overhauled movement, the case in superb original condition with mellow colour and a deep polish. Obadiah Brandreth 1678 - 1750 was the son of Thomas Brandreth of Lees and is a well regarded maker extensively listed. Measures 80" high x 21" max width at the hood cornice x 10" max depth.
