A superb original oil on board of Albert Square, Manchester, C.1955 by highly regarded and collected artist Arthur Delaney 1927- 1987. Painted in typical Delaney style depicting a 1930's Manchester street scene reminiscent of the artists childhood. The street scene with Albert monument and a passing tram to the centre of the painting and the town hall in the back ground. Figures to the foreground with gas street lighting and a taxi approaching. Superb detail and good colour. Arthur Delaney was born in Chorlton upon Medlock in 1927 and after leaving school became a textile designer and too...k up painting as a relaxation hobby. His paintings reflect his happy 1930's childhood in Manchester and the artist he regarded as his mentor, L.S. Lowery. His 1974 exhibition at Tib Lane Gallery sold out at the preview, and he also exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. Presented in immaculate condition and reframed in a quality timber gilt and mat black contemporary frame.
